How To Connect To SSH Tunnel With Putty

 

On Mac, you can connect to SSH tunnels with Terminal, SSH Tunnel Manageror iSSH-improved.

And on Windows, you can do that with Putty and Bitvise SSH client  .

The following will show you how to connect to SSH tunnel with Putty.

1. Download Putty

On PuTTY Download Page, download the "putty.exe" file.

2. Add SSH tunnel server

Run the "putty.exe" file, and enter your SSH tunnel server address as well as port on the "Section" tab.

3. Add forwarded port

Open the Port forwarding page via the following path on the left "Category" sidebar:

Connection – SSH – Tunnels

Then, enter "7070" in the "Source port", select "Dynamic", and click the "Add" button.

4. Save your SSH tunnel

Back to the "Session" tab, enter your SSH tunnel name in the "Saved Sessions" box and click the "Save" button.

This is not a MUST-HAVE step, but which will allow you to load your SSH tunnel next time.

5. Connect to your SSH tunnel

After that, click on the "Open" button, enter your SSH tunnel account username and password, then you can start to connect to your SSH tunnel.

In case that you come across the following security alert window:

Just click on the "Yes" button to close it.

And if that you come across the following connection error window:

Then you can restart Putty and try to connect your SSH tunnel again.

After connection, change your browser network SOCKS proxy to 127.0.0.1:7070, then you can use the SSH tunnel to unblock blocked sites.
